Mickey Charles Mantle was the centerfielder and first baseman for the New York Yankees for 18 seasons. Mantle hit some of the longest home runs multiple times in Major League history. Widely regarded to be the greatest switch-hitter of all time, he was inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 and was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999.

Many videos on YouTube document his tape measure home runs, which many have seen before in highlight reels and baseball throwback videos. However, this clip of Mickey Mantle shows a different and more personal side to the celebrated athlete. Mickey Mantle was very close to his Yankees team mates. They would hang out together both on and off the field and generally get into a lot of mischief.

In this clip, Mantle talks briefly about his friendship with New York Yankees manager, Billy Martin, and shares a story about a silly prank he pulled on Martin.

Check out this brief 2 minute clip to hear Mickey tell the story about deer hunting with Billy Martin.

And for a taste of history, here’s a clip of one of his tape measure blasts.

And last but not least, a brief 4 minute mini-biography that celebrates Mickey Mantle’s incredible life
