Life and Death Love Story

Don and Maxine Simpson

Stumbled on this remarkable love story earlier today. Don and Maxine Simpson, a couple from California, were married for 62 years and died within hours of each other.

The following is excerpted from ABC News:

The couple met at a bowling alley and were inseparable ever since. They raised two boys, traveled the world, and became well-respected members of Bakersfield.

Two weeks ago Don Simpson was taken to the hospital for a broken hip, but his health quickly started to deteriorate. His family brought him home to be with his wife, who had been battling cancer for several years.

“I knew in my heart this is what’s supposed to happen. Grandma and Grandpa are a true love story; they are supposed to be together and Grandma and Grandpa are going to die together,” Melissa Sloan said of her grandparents.

The couple spent their final hours as they always had, together, holding hands and smiling.

With her family and the love of her life by her side, Maxine Simpson quietly passed away. Her husband followed four hours later.

We offer our condolences to their loved ones, and our amazement for the love story they shared. Everlasting Footprint is dedicated to helping all people remember the life stories of loved ones; create a Footprint and share stories of your loved one’s life today.
